Ms. Olive Steele

Olive Steele is Chief Executive of Blackwood consultants Incorporated, a Temporary Staffing Firm, situated in Toronto, which she founded in 1990 to fill a need for temporary administrative and clerical personnel within the Ontario Public Sector.

A former public servant, Olive Steele worked in various Ministries of the Ontario Government. Her skills and her knowledge about doing business with government contribute greatly to the growth and success of her own company.

Two most impressive accomplishments during her tenure in the civil service involve her work as an Information Officer, during the Ontario Women's Directorate public education campaigns on wife assault and sexual assault in 1989; and her work in recruiting and placing temporary clerical and administrative personnel during the reorganization and initial set-up of Community Care Access Centers are part of Ontario' Ministry of Health. Today, Community Care Access Centers are part of Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Mrs. Steele's public service experience gives her a well-rounded perspective on various issues, and the policies that address these issues.

In addition to directing and managing the daily operations of Blackwood Consultants Incorporated, Mrs. Steele volunteers in the following community organizations:

  • President, National Council of Jamaicans and Supportive Organizations in Canada, Inc., A national body whose mission is the continued development of an umbrella organization through which Jamaican - Canadians and supportive members will unite to promote good Canadian citizenship.

  • Executive, Toronto Seniors Assembly, a Toronto-based advocate group, formed to provide a forum to consult with seniors and people working with or representing seniors. The Assembly is designed to play a pivotal role in identifying seniors issues and proposing solutions.

  • Vice President, Toronto Bathurst Lions club

  • Member, Toronto Board of Trade

With an interest in improving educational opportunities for children in our public school system, Mrs Steele ran for School Board Trustee in 2003 Municipal elections in Peel and garnered 25% of the votes. She is now moving towards more involvement in Municipal politics.

She studied at College of Arts Science and Technology and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.

Olive is wife of Herbert, mother of Sharon and grandmother of Jessica.
