Awardee:

Prof. Leroy DaCosta

Professor Leroy DaCosta, educator, accountant and mentor, graduated from UTech, formerly CAST, diploma in Business Administration in 1967.  Professor DaCosta is currently a member of the staff of Seneca College, specializing in Accounting Information Systems in The School of Accounting which is in the Faculty of Business since 1985.


After graduating from UTech, Leroy worked for a number of Fortune 500 and multinational companies such as Alcoa, Revere Copper and Brass, WR Grace and the TNT group where he served as a Divisional Controller.  His association with these companies exposed him to a number of best practices in the accounting field.  Leroy currently has over 30 years experience in accounting and holds a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. He is also a member of the Canadian Academic Accounting Association

 

In 1974 Leroy implemented his first information technology based payroll system, a system that was used to prepare the weekly payroll for over 1000 employees.  He has subsequently utilized his IT expertise in every organization that has been privileged to employ him.  Over the past 10 years, Leroy has attended and or participated in at at least 10 ERP conferences related to SAP and Microsoft Business Solution. Leroy has also taught IT at Institutions such as Ryerson University and York University.

 

Leroy’s busy career has seen him serving in numerous other capacities such as; Chairman of the ‘Systems Committee’ within the Accounting department, (Seneca college) a position he held for more than 10 years; Consultant to companies such as Fellowes Manufacturing, Zekom international and Futuretron, implementing and using accounting packages and business applications to improve the productivity of the accounting departments. Leroy has also served on many interview and curricula development committees as well as being a mentor to students and professors.

 

Leroy DaCosta represents another of CAST-UTECH’s outstanding alumni, making his mark on foreign platforms  for innovativeness.
