Awardee:

Mr. Anthony Sani

A graduate of St. Georges College, Tony joined the Survey Department at the UTech in 1972 and in 1973 was accepted in the first Land Surveying Diploma course. An awardee of the Harold F. Edwards Prize for the highest overall marks in Land Surveying in 1974, he graduated in 1976 with Honours, and was awarded a British Council scholarship to study Land Surveying at the North East London Polytechnic, London, England. In 1978, he was awarded the Crawter Prize for the second highest overall marks in the final Chartered Surveyors examination in the British Commonwealth. After graduating he worked in Suriname as Assistant Production Manager at Aerial and Hydrographic Surveys. He migrated to Canada in 1980, and in 1981 was admitted as a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. In 1982, he was granted a Commission to practice Professional Land Surveying in Jamaica.

In Canada, Tony worked as a Technologist and Mapping Supervisor prior to joining Northway Map Technology Limited in the capacity of Production Manager. After two years he was promoted to General Manager then later to Vice President and became a shareholder in the Corporation. December 1997 saw the birth of his own Companies - SANI-INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY ADVISORS INC., (a surveying, mapping and consulting company undertaking work primarily in Canada, the Caribbean, Central and South America) and SPATIAL GEO-LINK LIMITED, (a software company marketing remote sensing products in Canada).

In 1991, Tony received a Master of Applied Science degree from University of Toronto. In 1992 to 1996, also while working full-time, he pursued full-time Doctorial studies at the University of Toronto.

Tony has also been very active in the surveying profession. Some of his more recent involvement includes: 2000 - 2004: President of the Ontario Association of Remote Sensing; Currently a member of the Board of Examiners (Association of Ontario Land Surveyors); Member Ontario Land Surveyors Association and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.

Tony has presented and published several technical papers in remote sensing, digital photogrammetry and Geographic Information Systems, one of which was published by the United States National Institute for Standards and Technology, Publication 4688, 1991.

Tony and his wife are proud parents of two children.
